Abijao Lane Beach, Abijao Villaba Leyte

Going to the beach is expensive as what most people think unless if you will travel by your own – where you will only manage your own expenses. However, if you plan to be with your family, friends or relatives then most probably you will need enough resource to cover the cost. Yes most of the time it is true, especially if we will be talking about beaches located in the city or near first class hotels.

In this post, I want you to come with me as I venture into a very simple place more worth it than what it cost but can give you the same relaxation you need.  A very much affordable place where you can bring anyone  with you.

I had this rare chance to visit this place thus I made sure I will be able to share this to all of you. I’m talking about Abijao LaneBeach in Abijao Villaba Leyte. Abijao LaneBeach is just a road apart from the mountain side of the place. This means that you are practically surrounded with nature. Everything behind you is most likely covered with green while the blue sky and the blue water is right in front of you.

Entrance is only free provided that you will rent a cottage where price ranges between P100.00 to P300.00. If you want to bring any appliances, all you have to do is pay at least P50 for the electricity. Then pack you’re stuffs and you’re good to go.

What’s even interesting is that there is a water well (not so deep) located right at the center of the shore where you can get unlimited fresh water. Yes that’s fresh water in front of the vast sea water. So washing after swimming is no longer a problem. How was that?

The place is simply relaxing. An avenue where every family can bond, laugh and enjoy at a very minimal cost not even worth with the beauty of the place.

Here are some pictures I managed to capture while we are walking on our way home. Thank you so much to my foster family in Leyte for the opportunity. Of course, I'd love to be back whenever I’ll have the same chance again.

Thank you for taking time to read. I hope you will have the chance to visit the place! Enjoy and God Bless!

What To Look Forward In 2013

In his audio book entitled GOALS, Mr. Zig Ziglar emphasized that for one to get the best out of life, one must have certain goals with its specific timelines plus the discipline and the commitment to accomplish it.

In my previous post Things You Ought To Do To Get The Most Out Of Life, I mentioned that every year I usually set my personal goals according to these categories: Intellectual, Spiritual, Financial, Health, Relationship/ Recreation, Something New and Common Goals.

In this post, I would dare to share at least one goal that I look forward this year from each category. I don’t usually do this because I am not really comfortable doing it but I’ll break that rule this time and let’s see if I will be able to achieve what’s on my list at the end of the year. Here we go:

Intellectual

I am not fun of reading that’s why I want to read 10 good books this year.

Spiritual

I’ve been doing this for quite a while since I started working but I want to be committed to this every payday. I’m talking about sharing 10 percent of my income to the Lord, who in the first place provided me with countless blessings. Ten percent is much less than all the blessings I received from Him.

Financial

I always love to learn stock investing however I don’t usually have the nerve to study it on my own (I tried but some technical terms just keep my nose bleeding). I hope I would know someone who would love to learn this stuff with me or maybe I would attend related seminars geared towards embracing how stocks move in mysterious ways.

Health

I would love to engage in healthy activities this year. Since I seldom have the chance to play team sports due to time and player constraints (I love team sports over sports played individually or by pair), I look forward to learn and hone my skills in playing lawn tennis.

Relationship/ Recreation

I look forward to have at least 1 (one) local trip within the year. I super love to travel, ALWAYS!

Common Goal

Common goal means a certain goal I wrote last year that I failed to fulfill. And this is very obvious. This year I look forward that I will be able to complete at least 50 blog posts under VJGONZALES.com. And let this be my second post for the year.

Something New

I’m thinking of buying a new acoustic buddy this year. The last time I had a new guitar was when I graduated in college where my parents hand it to me as their simple graduation gift. I still have it right now but I just feel it’s time to add another member of the family.

GOALS are definitely important because it will help and guide us to where we are supposed to go. Create your own list now and let’s see how we can bring color and justice for the year 2013.

Happy New Year Everyone! God Bless All Our Plans. ENJOY!

Things You Ought To Do To Get The Most Out Of Life

I was in the office doing the usual task that I need to deliver in a day when out of nowhere I decided to switch on the speaker and listen to one of the inspirational audio books from Mr. Zig Ziglar. This is not unusual since I always enjoy listening than reading actual books. However, I must admit that my speaker is more acquainted with the songs from Westlife, The Corrs, Lifehouse, Celine Dion or maybe from a selection of Love Songs than this type of listening material where some of you might find boring and/or discrete.

In his audio book entitled GOALS, Mr. Zig Ziglar emphasized that for one to get the best out of life, one must have certain goals with its specific timelines plus the discipline and the commitment to accomplish it.

Then I thought that it will be timely to start the year right. Most of us enjoy having new year’s resolutions that we believe might spell a little difference of how we will spend the rest of the year.

Setting personal goals at the start of the year is not new to me. As far as I remember, I started doing this since I was in high school. The problem is I don’t have the discipline to make it happen thus I ended up achieving at least 20 percent to 50 percent of what I wrote at the start of the year. Except maybe last year 2007 when I went to as high as 80 percent. Not bad! The best year for me so far!

I usually set my yearly goals according to these categories: Intellectual, Spiritual, Financial, Health, Relationship/ Recreation, Something New and Common Goals.

It’s already 2013. Time flew really fast that it’s not obvious I already consumed 20+ years of my precious life. Hmmm….I think it's better to have a concrete plan and keep moving!

Please read What To Look Forward In 2013 to continue or click here.

Thank you for taking time to read. I hope you enjoy. God Bless!

Lessons Learned: The Hard Way

This is just my second post among all other fights of Manny Pacquiao. The first one was when Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao and Antonio "Tijuana's Tornado" Margarito fought last November 13, 2010 at Cowboys Stadium, in Arlington, Texas, United States where Pacquiao won over Margarito.
As for Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao vs Juan Manuel "El Dinamita" Marquez 4, many was excited to witness the bout. Two great fighters will face head on for the 4th time. In my case, I am not really planning to watch the fight as I was busy watching “Suits” series (anyway there will always be game replays). Watching the TV series seems like a simple favor to myself to chill and relax over the weekend. However, God gave me the chance to watch the fight live and for free so nevertheless I took the opportunity.

The whole world was watching closely as this fight becomes an epic. An encounter cultivated for over 8 years of fearlessly facing hard punches and blood runs. Aside from these fighters, the world was all excited as these strong men paved their way to prove to the world who really is a better puncher inside the ring.

But the world was shocked as Manny Pacquiao vanished right in front of the hands of Juan Manuel Marquez during the 6th round. It was the first time that Pacquaio was knocked out very badly within the entire 17 years of his boxing career. Everyone was surprised and it seems the whole country was so silent while watching Pacquiao lying in the canvass for almost 2 minutes.

Fans and sports analyst came up with different reasons why Pacquiao lost to Marquez. Some said it was just a fortunate punch, while some blamed it with the change of religion causing him to no longer perform his religious routine while inside the ring (the sign of the cross and wearing of his rosary), while others said it is all drama.

Win or loss, I will always be at Pacquiao’s side. I am always grateful and proud for Pacquiao as he brings the Philippines into the international arena of boxing. On a personal note, the only fight I’m looking forward to witness is between Pacquiao and Mayweather. However I’ll give Pacquiao a break in case this will not materialize.

For me, any fight in between is useless for he already proved his worth being an 8th world division champion. There’s nothing more to ask and I guess what he had achieved in this sport will be forever written in history. The best thing for him to do is to relax, enjoy his hard earned money and serve his people.

Things happened for a reason, that’s for sure. Indeed, this tragic event will teach us three (3) very important lessons that we can apply in your own personal fight as we journey in this beautiful life.

1. Overconfidence Precedes Carelessness.
As a friend of mine wrote in her facebook wall “Sometimes life becomes too easy that we become too complacent. At times it will astound you by letting you learn its greatest lessons the hard way.” Manny Pacquiao acknowledged that he was just careless enough to look for that punch and defend his stance. Indeed, life always surprise you just be ready or else it will get you down.

2. Patience Pays Sweet Rewards.
As the 6th round is about to end, Manny Pacquiao somehow became impatient as he tried to finish Marquez in the 10 seconds stretch where surprisingly a “lucky punch” hit him heavily and throw him down.  For Marquez, Pacquiao’s eagerness becomes his lucky break.

3. You Cannot Serve Two Masters At the Same Time.

This is really true. Manny’s dedication for boxing is really unquestionable. However, he has other task to attend to: TV Shows, Public Service, Pastoral Services, and Managing Businesses aside from his hectic training schedules as a boxer.  This simply means that he clearly will not have the advantage in attending boxing trainings compare to Marquez.

Now, will there be Pacquiao vs Marquez 5? Or is this all drama to be able to settle a fight between Pacquiao and Mayweather? Let’s see.

Love's Greatest Gift

As they say, good relationships don’t just happen. It takes time, patience and two people who truly want to be together. This is exactly what I learn from this couple when I try to recall how it all started. For me, their love story is like a fairytale and the perfect example how most people would want their love story to end.

Looking back 10 years ago, that was exactly when I enter college to take up my course in Industrial Engineering and was also the same time when I first met Mel near Room 316 for our Algebra class. We became seatmates and I don’t know how it works but we just gel naturally. From there I consider Mel as one of the few close friends I have. What is special about Mel from the rest of the group is that Mel is the only friend whom I shared all the subjects we had all throughout our college days (perhaps let's give CWTS an exception). Fortunately we went to the same class together for 5 years.

Mel is simply beautiful (inside/out). Mel is a natural package of beauty and brain. Simple she maybe but a genuine person that can be best described as the girl with her black wrist watch, brown scapular and a hair tie most of the time placed in her wrist when not in use.

On the other hand, I did not have the chance to know more about Chavez way back college life. But based on my observation and during some short encounters, I see him as a silent type of guy who manages to work on his books, scientific calculator and backpack from the classroom to the library all year round. Chavez is very intelligent but also very slender way back then. This is maybe because of his sleepless nights working on a lot of engineering formulas. Of course, all these pay off when he grabbed the spot as Top 1 in the National Mechanical Engineering Exam.

Unfortunately, because of his serious student life I believed he did not have the luxury of time to court girls as he is very busy solving all the engineering books at the library (not knowing he silently sneak a look from a distance..hehehe..peace Chavz). One thing I’m very much thankful about Chavez is that he saved us from our thermodynamics assignments when we can no longer digest the bleeding effects of Charles Law, Boyles Law, Entropy, Enthalpy and all those weird discussions.

Years passed. Everyone was surprised. Nobody ever anticipated it. But as they say, love moves in very mysterious ways. Next thing I know, they are together. And I am glad that they become the happiest people when they are together. Somehow their angles complement and they create the perfect shape.

For me, it is one of the few fairytales that turns real. Everybody would somehow wish that their story would also end up this way. But of course to Chavez and Mel, this is not the end and it is not always the “live happily ever after situation”. Along the way, somehow you will face few departmental exams like what we have in college to test what you have learned and in return make your relationship stronger.

With this, I always pray that you will live to the promises that you made and recall how you both made it possible. Melomel, thank you for everything especially for the priceless friendship you’ve shared. I know I wasn’t able to give you the best but I’m certainly blessed you stayed. Rest assured I’ll always be here for you. Chavz, patience indeed really works and gives you the sweetest reward ~ congratulations! I know that you will always love and take good care of my friend and I am sure as well that Mel will give you the love that you deserve. Keep it till eternity. God bless your union.

As your friends, we always wish that along the way we will always be part of your journey as a couple and we love to see wonderful kids made out of time, patience and pure love buzzing around very soon. We love you both. God bless and congratulations!

Passion for Success

Most of us, if not all of us, want to succeed. That is a fact! We all want to achieve our goals in life. We all want to fulfill our checklist that in most cases no one would understand but our self. Along with this journey, there is one important ingredient that we must possess and that is passion. While we may get results in the short term without having passion, in the long term it makes the difference between achieving success and failing.

Passion comes from the ancient Greek verb “paskho” meaning to suffer. Passion is an intense emotion compelling feeling, enthusiasm, or desire for something. Passion means doing what you love doing it even if it won’t cost you anything.

When we are passionate about what we do, our passion will show up in our work. Passion is shown in Michael Jordan who loves basketball, Tiger Woods who loves golf, Donald Trump who has great passion in real-estate, Bill Gates who loves software and Warren Buffet who has intense passion in the stock market.

However, we have to realize that there are always difficult times on our way to success. There are times when we no longer understand the meaning of what we are doing for two reasons: things seem too complex or rather boring. Situations changes so fast or rather too slow. Instances when nobody believes and appreciates in our capabilities but us.

There are times when we feel like we are working for nothing, that we don’t get anything in return for all our efforts. In such difficult times, only passion can keep us moving forward. We just have to believe that something great awaits us, more importantly we have to constantly believe the greatness in us.

Not only will passion lead us to achieving success, it will also lead us to a fulfilling life. According to Emerson, “Nothing GREAT was ever achieved without ENTHUSIASM”. Therefore with passion, we will become who we are, we will become the person we are supposed to be and great success is sure to come our way.

Philippine Airlines Closes The Deal To Sell Shares To San Miguel Corporation

Last January, I wrote a blog post regarding the possibility of San Miguel Corporation Buying Shares of Philippine Airlines.  Just around three months after, a final deal was made known to the public, Philippine Airlines sells around 49% of its stake to San Miguel Corporation.

According to the news, "San Miguel president Ramon Ang said the $500-million investment had bought his company a 49-percent stake in PAL and its low-cost offshoot, Airphil Express".

Will this mean a price increase in the shares of stocks for Philippine Airlines and San Miguel Corporation brought about by the markets strong support of SMC's PAL acquisition? Or will this result to a turnaround?

Let's find out!  Share your ideas here.

Again, here's the link to my personal opinion/reaction. Just click here.

Also, here's the link from Yahoo News Philippines regarding the details of the acquisition.

I Choose Philippines! Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas - Share The Fun :)

Just this morning I had the chance to seat in front of our TV watching Kuya Kim's show in ABS-CBN entitled "Matanglawin". It was during the break when I saw the promotional video of Choose Philippines entitled "Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas" for the second time, first was when it was shown by the time it was launched at ASAP.

Maybe most of you had seen this already many times but as I had my review of this ad, I was really moved while watching this campaign (and thus I blog). It made me realize how beautiful the Philippines is (more than what I imagine) and now I have my long list of beautiful places to (hopefully) visit and relax (if budget allows) amidst busy and draining schedules. Have one, its worth of your time (just list it down, who knows?).

Choose Philippines, known to be the country’s first-ever social and travel networking site, spearheaded the  “i Choose” campaign to support the government’s “More Fun in the Philippines” project. This video basically invites and encourages every Filipino to take his part and point out some sort of  7,107 reasons why people all around the world should choose the Philippines. Not just limited to every Juan in the Philippines but at the same time this will enable foreigners and travelers to know more about our country and fall in love with it.

Below is the copy of the video "Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas" as performed by Pilipinas Got Talent Finalist  El Gamma Penumbra.

Here's another version of the video, this time featuring more historical and travel destinations in the Philippines.

I CHOOSE PHILIPPINES! Be proud being a Filipino. This country is so beautiful that it is worth to be taken cared of. Be inspired and let us together discover this bounty. Share the fun!

Here's some of my featured travels so far. Of course, I have been to a lot of places already but  unfortunately I wasn't able to share it to all of you. Don't worry I'll do some catching up! Expect more of me - sharing more of my travel experiences in my future post. Oh by the way, allow me to include the list by Mr. Alex Lacson, some simple stuffs you can do for our country. Enjoy!

Below is the lyrics of the song Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas, just in case you may want to sing along.

Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas Lyrics by Angeline Quinto

Minsan natuwa ang may likha
Pitong libong pulo ang ginawa
Mga hilyas na inilatag
Sa malasublang dagat
At ang bayan nyang pinili
Nasa dulo ng bahag-hari
Kaya isang libong kulay
Nang aakit kumakaway

Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas
Kakulo ang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo yakapin mo
Kayamanan nyang likas
Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

Masaya ang ‘di mabatid
Hanggang sa bawat awit
Sa masisiglang indak
Mga Puso’y lumilipad

Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas
Kakulo ang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo yakapin mo
Kayamanan nyang likas
Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

At ang ngiti ng may kapal
Taglay ng bawat nilalang
May lambing na dumuduyan
Sa buong pakiramdam

Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas
Kakulo ang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo yakapin mo
Kayamanan nyang likas
Piliin mo ang Pilipinas

Dito ay tinaghana
Araw, Buwan, at mga Tala
Kinang na mag niningning
Kailanma’y di magdidilim

If you know what I’m talking about
Suitcase in the house with the party sound
First choice, first love-if ya’ll ask the crowd
“WE GONNA CHOOSE PHILIPPINES”

Come on shout it out
Everybody’s gonna dance to this
I see the whole world party in the Philippines
Philippines now with Angeline
Quinto, Bueno-on the TV screen hey!

This is like a samba
From Rio to Manila will be hittin’ on drums ya
Shake shake it off on beats of life
No more drama
And shout: WE GONNA CHOOSE PHILIPPINES

No one other
The world keeps talking
But we aint walkin’
We keep on dancing
That’s how we rock it
7,107 island of beauty
See pieces of heaven

Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas (choose Philippines)
Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas (choose Philippines)
Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas (choose Philippines)
Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas (choose Philippines)
Piliin mo ang inang Pilipinas (choose Philippines)

Kakulo ang kwintas ng perlas
Piliin mo yakapin mo
Kayamanan nyang likas
Piliin mo ang Pilipinas
(x2)
